Exciting Student Outings!
Getting off campus has become one of the most anticipated parts of our students’ experience – and for good reason. While there is so much value in what happens day-to-day on campus, these outings give students the chance to explore, unwind, and simply enjoy being kids in a new environment. Each trip brings so much excitement, and it’s clear that these moments are more than just fun – they’re memories being created with every moment.

From high-energy adventures to relaxed outings, there’s something for each student to enjoy. Just before spring break, the Hope House took a trip to Urban Air, where students can jump, climb, and challenge themselves in ways that get them moving and laughing together. They loved every minute, and it was such a special treat for the students who were headed into spring break. For those who enjoy a mix of fitness and fun, visits to the YMCA give students the opportunity to work out, shoot hoops, or take a refreshing swim. These experiences not only promote physical health but also are simply lots of fun for the kids to get off campus and stay active.
Of course, not every outing is about activity – some are simply about enjoying the little things. A stop at Culver’s for ice cream is all it takes to make a great day even better. “One of my favorite trips was when we all went to Culver’s for ice cream!” shared 8-year-old Melody. “The trips we take are a fun privilege and add a lot of fun to being at New Song!” Sitting together, sharing stories, playing Uno, and enjoying a treat creates space for connection and conversation that sticks with students long after the trip ends.
One of the all-time favorites is roller skating. Whether it’s one of their first times or they’re already a pro, the rink fills up with laughter, music, and encouragement as everyone finds their rhythm. This experience is often special for even the staff, as we get to see the students cheer each other on, help each other up, and have a blast together.
And then there’s The Commons, a place that never fails to bring smiles to the students’ faces. This large indoor playground gives students the freedom to explore, climb, and play in a space designed for pure fun. It’s a chance for them to let loose, be creative, and enjoy being active in a completely different setting.
These off-campus experiences are about more than just getting out – they’re about creating memories, building relationships, and giving students opportunities to experience joy in new ways. It’s clear every time we load the van that these outings matter. The excitement, the laughter, and the stories that come back with us are proof that sometimes, stepping off campus is exactly what students need.
Outings such as these are more than just a break from routine – they play an important role in each student’s growth and well-being. Getting off campus allows students to experience new environments, practice social skills, and build confidence in real-world settings. Whether they’re ordering their own ice cream, trying a new activity, or simply navigating a new space with friends, these moments help foster independence and decision-making in a natural, supportive way. The experiences our students are having in off-campus communities are providing wonderful opportunities for learning and growth, helping us fulfill our mission of “equipping children for life!”
